We're traditionalist at heart and we love real wood flooring but the durability, practicality and ease of fitting with LVT is impossible to ignore. We started offering our range of LVT flooring in 2019 and it's popularity has grown rapidly ever since. A product well worth considering for those looking for a very functional floor.

What is stone plastic composite flooring?

SPC flooring stands for Stone Plastic Composite. The SPC refers to the core of the board, which is made up of a combination of calcium carbonate (limestone), polyvinylchloride, and stabilisers.

Our ranges of SPC Flooring are designed to mimic the look and feel of natural wood while offering several advantages over traditional materials.

Due to its construction SPC flooring is very durable and water / stain resistant, meaning it can be installed in any room at home or in light commercial environments, such as shops. Waterproof in nature, it is suitable for areas such as bathrooms and kitchens, where moisture levels can be higher.

Ultimately, SPC Flooring is perfect for any room of the home, or light commercial setting whereby the look of wood is desired, but with added practicality and cost savings.

No flooring is “bullet proof”, however our high-quality SPC flooring has a wear-resistant top coat, which will thoroughly protect it from scratches and dents.

All our stone plastic composite flooring comes with a built-in underlay and an easy click-locking system.

These features reduce the time required to install, keeping installation costs down, and make for easy installation – of which many keen DIYers take on themselves.

Due to the integrated underlay, you do not need any additional glues or underlays.

The difference is in the composition of the core. SPC contains stone composite and PVC which created a ridged core, whereas WPC contains wood fibres, plastics, and foaming agents, making it softer and more flexible.

Learn more about the differences in our article.

Underlay: for ease of installation, the integrated underlay adds comfort and reduces noise. The underlay is made up of Irradiated Cross-Linked Polyethylene (IXPE)

SPC core: constructed from a mix of stabilisers, limestone powder, and polyvinylchloride, it is stable, dense and resistant to moisture

Vinyl topcoat: a photographic layer offering a wide range of designs and a realistic wooden look

Wear layer: the transparent wear layer protects against wear and tear in high-traffic areas

UV coating: another transparent layer, this will protect your floor from scratching easily

Our selection of SPC flooring can be laid over a water-based underfloor heating system. The underside temperature of the SPC vinyl flooring should not exceed 27°C.

If you have an electrical underfloor heating system, please speak to us before making a purchase.

Stone Plastic Composite flooring can be installed over existing flooring providing the surface is flat, solid, stable, and dry.

SPC Flooring is renowned for being a very durable flooring solution and one that should last at least 25 years domestic and 15 years light commercial. The true lifespan of any floor will largely depend on the nature of the traffic, and how you maintain the floor.

The flooring is designed to take heavy footfall and will cope extremely well with this. Harder objects such as chair legs and office chair wheels have been known to damage an LVT floor if continually rubbed over the same area.

In summary – SPC flooring is a very durable flooring choice however like with most floors, some preventative measures should be considered.

Yes, it handles everyday water exposure very well, due to its waterproof construction. When installed correctly, the tight click-lock installation minimises water penetration between planks.
